    MD

    Dr. Harsimar Singh is a board-certified internal medicine physician who is dedicated to providing compassionate care and close attention for seniors. “I want my patients to feel heard and in charge of their own health,” he says. “I especially enjoy getting to know people on a personal level and being there for them as I help improve their overall health.” In addition to primary care, Dr. Singh has experience as a hospitalist, and he’s been praised for having a soothing demeanor. When Dr. Singh is not focused on patients, he keeps up with medical research and spends time with his wife and children. Dr. Singh also likes to draw and dreams of visiting Bora Bora or the Maldives someday.

    Being raised by her grandma gave Fabienne Gabriel-Lestrail great respect for seniors—and sparked her interest in healthcare at a young age. She started off working with patients who had dementia or Alzheimer’s and has been passionate about senior care ever since. Fabienne Gabriel-Lestrail, who is an advanced registered nurse practitioner, says, “I really enjoy helping my patients. I treat them like family, and I love to see them live longer, healthier, and happier lives.” During down time, Fabienne Gabriel-Lestrail likes to keep up with medical research, soak up quality time with her husband and three children, and spend time at church. She also enjoys travel and dreams of visiting France, Israel, and Dubai.

    Suzette Bellorin is a family nurse practitioner who specializes in cardiology. She is grateful to serve the senior population and loves listening to their stories. “I always try to enter a patient’s room with a smile and a warm, positive greeting and attitude,” she says. Suzette Bellorin aims to treat patients like family and says seeing a smile on their faces is her “biggest reward.” If she could change anything about the current healthcare system, she would make it more accessible. “I always strive to deliver safe, compassionate, and effective care to every patient and individual that I encounter,” she says. In her free time, Suzette Bellorin enjoys traveling, meeting new people, and experiencing new languages and cultures.

    Dr. Lior Elkayam knew at a young age that he wanted to become a physician. “Even my elementary yearbook stated that I was going to become a physician,” he says. Building lasting relationships with his patients is his favorite part of his profession. “I try to see every patient as a family member and try to build that relationship and treat them as such,” he explains. He greatly respects the senior population and is dedicated to providing them with the best possible care. He likes treating the “whole person” rather than just a patient’s ailments. “Treating heart, body, and soul is the goal!” he says. In his free time, Dr. Elkayam enjoys reading, playing tennis, and spending quality time with his family.

  • D’Jonson Jn Baptiste

    For D’Jonson Jn Baptiste, becoming a healthcare provider was “a childhood dream.” He explains, “The reason was to help the underserved communities in my country, Haiti.” His favorite part of working in the medical field is “advocating for patients for better care outcomes.” He likes building relationships with patients by establishing trust, and he always aims to treat patients with dignity. “I have always been passionate about caring for my elderly people,” he says. If he could change anything about the current healthcare system, he would “reduce healthcare disparities.” When he is not caring for patients, D’Jonson Jn Baptiste likes watching and playing sports with his son. They particularly enjoy soccer and basketball.

    For Dr. Khaled Elias, “communicating with patients” is the greatest part of working in healthcare. To help establish strong relationships with patients, he is dedicated to always treating them with kindness. If he could change anything about the current healthcare system, he would increase affordability by adjusting “the medical cost for the patients.” Dr. Elias is devoted to lifelong learning. To stay up to date with the ever-evolving world of healthcare, he often studies and reads the latest medical articles. When Dr. Elias is not providing stellar care for his patients, he can be found working out. Few people may guess that he has also been playing piano since he was only ten years old.

  • Stephanie Chong

    MD

    As an internal medicine physician, Dr. Stephanie Chong has served the medical needs of patients across their lifespan. Today, she works specifically with seniors at Chen Senior Medical Center for one simple reason. "They deserve the best care," says Dr. Chong. "Every patient deserves our full attention and extra time to really get to know them. Seniors often don't get that level of focused care during a time in their lives when they need it most. I'm here because Chen Senior Medical Center share that same value and lets me practice it every day." Dr. Chong earned her medical degree at the University of the West Indies in Mona, Jamaica, and completed her internal medicine residency at State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn. She trained in dermatology, emergency medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology and has helped patients in a variety of medical settings in Jamaica and the U.S. Dr. Chong is a member of the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association and the Medical Association of Jamaica. Her hobbies include swimming, kayaking, weight training, kung fu and cooking.

  • Oyinda Ajumobi

    Dr. Oyinda Ajumobi accompanied her mother, who is a physician, on a medical mission trip when she was eight years old. “Since then, I knew I was going to dedicate my life to serving in healthcare,” she explains. She finds it rewarding to care for the senior population. “Patients are my favorite part of my profession. They trust me with their health and include me in their world by sharing their life experiences, culture, memories, and stories of their family with me,” she says. She adds, “I’m also available for any health concerns and provide them with my direct line.” In her free time, Dr. Ajumobi enjoys hiking, playing the piano, and listening to Afro-Caribbean music. She has lived in Grenada and considers it her “second home.”

    Dr. Fatima Ahmed chose to pursue a career in medicine to help make a difference in people’s lives and contribute to “the wellness of society as a whole.” Her favorite part of her profession is developing relationships with patients. She explains that she tries to “provide the best possible care” to gain her patients’ trust. She likes listening to them and asking them questions to “better understand their experiences and expectations.” She also loves the endless learning opportunities. “Medicine is an ever-evolving field and offers great potential for self-growth and acquisition of knowledge,” she explains. Dr. Ahmed enjoys reading, cooking, and enjoying time with family in her down time. She also collects coins and stamps.

    Dr. Emerson Valdez explains that he was in high school when he realized his desire to pursue a career as a physician. “I chose podiatry because I can help patients with many different modalities,” he elaborates. For Dr. Valdez, seeing his “patient’s appreciation” is the best part of his profession. He specializes in all forms of podiatry, including wound care and surgery. He is grateful for the opportunity to care for the senior population and has done so for nearly fifteen years. When Dr. Valdez is not caring for his patients, he can be found enjoying quality time with his son and granddaughter. He also enjoys listening to audio books and playing sports with friends, especially soccer and golf.
